3:18 pm - Halloween and Akai
Tasha and I went shopping for Halloween decorations and our doorway is decorated so cute ^^ It's strange though cuz there's some rule that when we decorate for Halloween we can't put up witches. WTF? So of course now I'm going to dress up as a witch for Halloween and we have a big witch that moves when your clap hanging on our door. That's me sticking it to the man!

And speaking of sticks, I broke another rule in the dorm. According the the Handbook (x.x;;) I'm not supposed to have any sort of "martial arts weapon" in my room so my Resident Director says I have to get it out of my room. T-T;; WTF?! What about all of the "questionable paraphenalia" in the boys' dorm next door?!? They have beer cans and alcohol in their fridges and displayed in their rooms as well as baseball bats that are similar to my wooden practice sword! Why are they picking on the girls? x.x;;

Fun news, though - I got a betta! He's the cutest thing in the world!!! XD His name is "Akai" which is "red" in Japanese cuz he has some red streaks on him. He's so adorable! talk about the best $7 i ever spent for him, his tank and his food! nice! ^^

11:06 am - RenFair Report!
top 10 reasons why Saturday's trip to the Texas Renaissance Festival in Plantersville RULED!!!!

10.) The Fireworks.
9.) The people who work there are too cool! Especially the pirates.
8.) The Ded Bob Show.
7.) I learned how to "Sphere" (move a glass ball around your hands like magic)
6.) i've had the joy of watching two 18 and 20 year old guys ride an elephant, having more fun than little kids
5.) mike was forced by the fairy court to recite Shakespeare's love Sonnet 81 to me on bended knee in front of the world! <3
4.) mike bought a bag of "kissing powder" that tastes like strawberries and comes with a "feather applicator" - FUCK YEAH!!!
3.) i bought a pretty feather fan, a tail for my costume, an Indian bag, and an authentic Indian Sari!!!
2.) i looked damn good in my costume.
1.) i got to sleep with Mike in a big bed and enjoy RenFair with him.

HUZZAH!!

BTW, everyone should go see "Team America: World Police" - fuckin' hysterical!

Goddamn you, Macintosh computers - you make my tech support life hell on earth!

Going to the Texas Renaissance Festival on Saturday with Monica, her man Jackson, Mike and Jason. I'm also going Nov. 5 for the VIP King's Feast! Expect updates and pics - it'll be awesome!!!

I've started drawing again. It feels good.

My schoolwork is omnipresent x.x;; I'm burned out. Renfair will cheer me up! (as well as spending $40 at Target today ^^ )

11:15 am - Homework: it never ends....
Ugh, i think i'm startting to feel the weight of 16 hours. It's a lot, but it's not more than i can handle.
Back to SA-town on Friday! =^.^= Hopefully I can score some money off my parents.
I took a nap today - it was so nice! I've noticed napping is pretty popular around here but for a good reason. Like today i got up at 6:50am and work my ass off till midnight when I usually like to crash. I need some downtime! Keeping up with my work is quite trying, but as long as I stay (somewhat) focused i should be alright. Hope everyone's doing well! Didja like my photoshopped pic of me in the last entry?? :D

Happy 19th Birthday, T-dawg.

For those who can vote, please do! Get active! Though it's too late to register in Texas, there's plenty you can do to get involved. Whether you like politics or not, it effects you! There's my spiel on voting.

I'm sad cuz i wrote this long in-depth journal entry and LJ wouldn't let me submit it, so it was lost. T-T;;

I am soooooo sleepy from last night but I'm technically "on duty" till 7pm. x.x;;

I have a lot of reading to do for my classes; I'm just grateful that unlike most of my high school courses, my readings and assignments are actually interesting.

Dance clubs are interesting.
Alcohol is not cool, kids.

2:41 pm - CHEER UP YOU FUCKING EMO KID.
Have you ever for no reason whatsoever gone to the "search" button on the LJ navigation bar at the top of the page and selected "random"? If you dare to click this, it sends you to the most random journals. But I find that most random journals I have had the pleasure to have tainted upon my screen are either:

1. random entries that are usually a sentence long and make no sense. (these are actually really funny)
2. are "here's what i did today!!" for every entry

or my personal most hated:

3. emo kid LJs!!!

these LJs are laden with "i wanna die", "my life sux", and the like. I wonder what brings this depressed, emotional side of people out on LJ? Is it the fact that it's a way to release the hatred you have for yourself and everyone and everything? Is it the fact that you hope someone will comment and share in the misery?

sure everyone gets upset and sad and writing is a great way to let it all go but daaaamn i wonder how some of these people live in the real world. maybe antidepressants aren't overperscribed, after all....

EDIT: want some fun proof?

"2boxes - of sharp objects." - how one girl has her comments set up
"i have no idea who i am anymore. i'm tired, i'm confused and i'm scared. it feels like i'm waiting for someone to save me, even though the only person who can do that is me. but what happens when i simply can't let go?" - lastest entry from some guy
"memories choke me"

it could go on forever.

actually, doing the "random" search thing is pretty fun, but when i see an emo one, it makes ME sad...

2:13 pm - Yawn...
Today is really lazy. Work is slow (thank GOD!!!) so I'm getting a lot of homework out of the way. Yay!! I could be studying for my Japanese test, but I guess I'll hang out on LJ some ^^

Matt-chan, you were right. College is sooooo bad ass!!! XD

I started learning to play golf on Monday. There's a driving range near Elgin where Mike and Jason live and they are both good. They've showed me how to swing properly and whatnot but in the end I think it has to do with what feels right. and OMG I'm sooo sore! Who'd've thought golf could hurt you! I'm all sore, my hands are blistered and my leg hurts from accidentally hitting it with a club. x.x;; but it was very fun noneoftheless!!!

Then in a random twist the three of us went to Fry's. OMFG IT IS HEAVEN. Computer and electronics galore. Puts Best Buy and Circuit City TO SHAME if you are hardcore computer/electronic geeky. I felt like skipping the whole time (I only skipped a little ^^ ) I wanted to buy EVERYTHING. They even have their own damn cafe and restaurant in there. Man, that place was so cool. Austin's got it right. Actually, Austin reminds me a lot of San Antonio, but Austin has trees and nature and whatnot.

Overall I'm pretty sane and enjoying the financial and time management freedom. I spend what I want - it's my cash. I go and do what I want whenever - no one cares. Life is goooooood.

There's a lot of good people here, too. Some losers, some weirdos, but really there are some sweet, fun, cool peeps! But I guess that's with any school. Unfortunately, the otakus I know aren't as cool as the ones at CAHS ^^ This guy in two of my classes saw a drawing I did on my dry-erase board near my dorm room door of me on my comp that said "off duty" and he said "isn't that cliche that you like anime?"

o.o
>.<;;

i said, "well, i try my hardest" and stormed off. stupid ass. and he was cool in my book cuz he's a lefty. but eh that's okay. he still needs to figure out if he likes boys or girls or what.

and I OWN everyone at DDR, which is nice. ^-^

7:27 am - Nonverbal Communication Experiment
today in my Intro. to Comm. class, we had to run around campus and purposely violate someone's personal space (within reason oO;) and observe how they reacted nonverbally to our random physical closeness. My friend Claire sat at some guy's table and he completely ignored her. I went to the coffeeshop and stood really close to a woman, and she got nervous and backed away from me. Another time, I kept pace with a girl walking to the Ragsdale building and when she noticed I was not only following her but keeping pace, she freaked and almost broke into a run! It was an interesting assignment that shows how defensive we are of our space. Of course, our teacher told us not to make a habit of it but it was fun noneoftheless. Hooray for weird college assignments!!

11:35 am - Stuff 'n' Stuffs
well drama is starting to boil up. boy problems, alcohol issues and a fire emergency have cropped up in the past few days. but if i learned anything, it's to stay away from ppl's drama. stay FAR AWAY... Other than that, i'm doing well! I spent the majority of my first paycheck at the mall ^^ and i feel sorta bad but oh well i'm not broke and i'm saving money so it's cool. School is slowly starting to get increasingly busy, but it's fun, noneoftheless actually! ^^ Mike is coming over today so that's exciting cuz I don't work today. I hate it when I sit here all day waiting for ppl to find me so i can help them, and when I finally get off, THEN everyone has a computer crisis. but it's okay - i still can't believe ppl are so damn COMPUTER ILLITERATE. but it's cool - that's how i landed a job! XD

8:05 am - Internet Culture
In a journal entry I had to write for my Rhetoric and Composition II class about "Internet Culture", I wrote a lot that I think LJ'ers would be interested in and understand where I was coming from. Enjoy my take on the Internet thus far:

I see Internet in the future becoming more encompassing of our daily and professional lives. Look at how much SEU depends on computers already. Corporations rise and fall through the internet. If power goes out on campus, everyone freaks and the world has come to an end. As with everything, Internet is good in moderation. It's important to be aware of what is possible on the internet, but becoming engrossed in it or knowing nothing at all will not get you far either way.

There is a definite internet culture. I've been there and now I'm done. I've spent hours on message boards in high school and you become absorbed in the drama and nerdiness of it all. But I have learned a lot from it - more about computers, about people and how they interact through internet and what the internet can do. I was definitely drawn into "The Machine" - if my board's server went down I would freak out because then I couldn't comment on the latest posts. I became absorbed out of boredom. Connecting to others helped me during a rough few months in high school, but afterwards I was weary of how deep I was in and how dependent I was.

On the flipside, I actually learned more about myself - how I present myself to others, what I believe and do not believe and how to be weary of others online and if the information they give about themselves is true or not. Most people in my high school knew a lot about computers, so I was not as isolated as the stereotyped "junkie". If I talked about internet-specific topics or computers in general, most knew what I was talking about. A lot of my friends (as well as myself) have blogs/online journals. So in a round-about way, I guess the influence of my school's focus on computer technology lead to my interest of the internet.

My definition of "internet culture" is that is it is a mass of people who have common interests and find each other over the net. Over time, communities form in which they can discuss varied topics. Rules are formed to govern users. The users know how to talk, act and portray themselves in certain ways. And in the end, it's like an entirely different life you lead in "the real world".

My major is Communication (specialization in Media Art, PR and Advertising) and I'm considering having a minor in International Relations.

I forgot to mention about how most junkies I know are in love with their emotional drama. But I don't want to make us look to bad. I'm still a junkie, I guess - but not like I used to be. Thank God.

9:18 am - E-mail to Mom
here's a copy of an email I just sent to my Mom. I thought it was a good update on my life right now so here it is!

Hi, Mom!

Thanks for the email - it made my day! School is going well. I really
like my Japanese class and my Lecture Lit. class called "Cybertopia". I'm
glad to hear Rick is doing well in school. I've gotten some positive
feedback from my teachers but my grades haven't been posted yet. But
don't worry, I've been keeping up well and all of my professors are great!

I can't wait to see everyone's Renaissance costumes! I think I got most
of what I wanted at Goodwill and Monica will alter my skirt. I really
hope Rick can get an antique looking Quidditch uniform - maybe just buy
the Quidditch Holloween costume and alter it? I think that idea would be
so cool! Michael now works parttime at the Subway in Elgin and luckily
they are very flexible with schedules so he can get that weekend off -
what weekend though? We'll probably come into town that Friday, then! As
for a costume he still isn't sure but we'll come up with something! I
can't wait 'till we go - I know this feast will be really fun!

I still haven't been paid yet. :( My workload (as in how many girls I
help) is slowing down though, as I figured it would. Some of the girls
even baked me cookies! Hopefully I'll see some money soon, though! I put
$150 of the scholarship money into savings and part of my paycheck will
go in there too.

I miss everyone in SA (even Belle!) and I'm glad to know you guys are
alright too. Everything is going great here - school is going well, I
have good friends in my dorm, Natasha is going great and Mike is excited
about going to college in the Spring! He wants to teach High School
Biology - he really loves science. :)

See you in early November for the King's Feast! If you see anything
Gypsy-ish, tell me - I want some accessories for my costume!

Love, Megan

PS - Tell Rick that Mike bought me a new Red GameBoy SP and the Pokemon:
FireRed game!! Maybe he can buy the game too and we can battle! Mike
bought it too - he traded in most of his games to buy me that GameBoy and
game - I couldn't believe it! I guess we'll all be playing Pokemon on the
ride to Renaissance Festival! See you soon! Love you!

So if you were curious as to the state of my life right now, there's a pretty good idea! I hope everyone is doing well! Viva La Renaissance Festival! See you there!

11:13 pm - 1st Week of College Update!
It doesn't feel like only a week has gone by since I've started class. I feel comfortable here, like I belong. The girls in my dorm are soooo much fun and so cool and even some of the guys aren't complete dumbasses. XD Anyway, my classes are going well and I'm keeping up with my homework/reading, etc. My job is a bit stressful because the school's online network has been acting really shitty lately and is fucking up everyone's computers. x.x;; I can't fix everything!

Mike is coming to see me today ^^ He quit his job at that computer hardware place and is getting a regular part-time job so he can go to ACC!!! He wants a teacher's certificate to teach Science to high schoolers!! How cute! ^.^ I'm so proud of his aspirations. He said if it wasn't for me, he'd never consider college at all. I'm so glad to have such a positive influence on him. ^^

Oh, for my Communication Seminar, our first assignment was to take the Typology test on http://www.humanmetrics.com What it does is you answer a series of questions and it analysizes your personality tendencies. The test was compliled by a bunch of Psychologists, and let me tell you they were dead on with me. Try it! You'll learn something about you.

Hope everyone is doing well and wish me luck on my first quiz in Japanese class!!! ^o^

3:19 pm - My Badass First Job!!!!
I got a job! weeeee! I am the new "Computer Technician" for Doyle Hall!!! (my dorm) Ever since Saturday I've been helping girls get their computers and internet access set up in my free time. Then I met a guy Alex who is the technician for the boys' dorm next door. He said he had heard of a girl in Doyle helping the girls there and that the IT dept really needed a technician specifically for the girl's dorm to save Alex the trouble of running back and forth too much.
How serendipitous!!! I finally tracked down Alex's supervisor in the IT dept and he hired me on the spot!!! So now I work 20 hrs. a week for $6/hr and all I have to do is be "available" in my dorm and help girls with their computers!!! Now i'm being paid for what I was doing anyway!!! w00t! so now I'm: Megan, resident Doyle Techie girl!

12:42 am - OMFG I'm HEEERRRREEE!!!!! weeee!
i finally got my internet hooked up! XD

I LOVE my dorm and my new-found friends, you guys. All-girls is so fun when it comes to sharing a living space. I've met so many nice girls and my roommate is awesome too! Like today, we all (like, 8 of us!) decided we'd take the bus to the mall. Smart, right? So we're waiting for the bus and we end up trying 3 different bus stops and all of these guys driving by kept honking, yelling and "gesturing" towards us!!!! o.O;;!! it was INCREDIBLY SICK AND GROSS AND DISGUSTING!!! yuck! finally we gave up and my new friend Stephani drove us in her SUV to the frickin' mall. The mall is so cool! We spent 2 hours on just the top floor! Tomorrow we're all eating breakfast and lunch together. These girls are awesome. And it's so cool that most of us live on the first (out of three) floors, so we're near each other! Sadly, Claire is on the second floor but i call her and tell her to meet us. ^^ I just love when ppl have their doors open and everyone just walks in to visit!!! It's so cool and spontaneous.

I love it here. I know I'll love my classes too. I've got all my books except my Japanese textbook. T-T;; and the cost with the missing book comes out to about $250, which isn't bad in comparison to some people's. I love it. It's better than I ever imagined. Mike is coming to visit me on Monday afternoon (he works weekends, but we talk on the phone all of the time), so I can't wait to show him around!!!

and if any of you guys are ever in south Austin, CALL ME!!!! i want to show off my school and my dorm and my friends and my room!!!

I promise to post pix of my friends and my dorm room soon!!!

I miss everyone, but know that I'm doing great! Gimme a call or something. I have AIM now, so say hi!! <3

9:37 am - I'm baaaack!!!
Yay I'm back from da lake! I'm a lil sunburned and my whole body is sore but it was worth it because I got to go water skiing!!! I did very well (Mike's dad used to own a boat so I got pretty good last summer), but I missed home. But I'm only here for today because I'm spending the weekend with my dad but I'll be back on Sunday.

Rick starts his first day at CAHS on Monday and I get to send him off. awwwww!!! XD and as for me, I move to SEU on Friday!!! I can't wait. ^^ Only a week from today! amazing.... oO

I get to see Mike Mon-Wed!!! <3 Finally! I'm going to give him his tarot set!

Ohhhh interesting story: a few weeks ago Mike and I ate at Taco Bell and jokingly entered a drawing to win a Jeep from Ancira. Then Mike gets a call from Ancira yesterday saying that he was actually a finalist to win!!! So he calls me and gets all excited. Unfortunatly, he has to be present to win, so he'd have to drive back to SA on Saturday then back up to Austin for work in the same day! But Mike said he was willing to do it because the lady on the phone said he had a 1 in 5 chance to win! Sounds too good, right?
I told Mike to call back to get some more specifics and good thing he did because apparently he was 1 out of 170 (!!!!) invited and that Mike thought it sounded like a gimmick for Ancira, so he's not going. Crap T-T;; and I'm already mad at Ancira for when I was trying to buy a car and the salesguy was a jerk!!!! XP
